The RAID (Redundant Arrays of Independent Disks) disks is the outcome of the new-age technology using which you can achieve high levels of storage dependability. These are economical and used mainly in large organizations. In this, the data is stored in multiple places. That ways, if some data gets corrupted on a particular server then it can be recovered from another server. However, sometimes you are unable to start a Windows system making the system inaccessible. This can happen due to various issues such as incompatible hardware components, virus infections, etc. To recover hard drive, you should perform in-place methods. If you are not able to solve the problem, then you should use a third-party Windows hard drive recovery software to recover hard drive.
Consider a scenario wherein you are unable to start your Windows 7 system that has a RAID disk attached to it. An error message is displayed on a blue screen, that is:
“STOP 0×0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE”
Cause:
The root cause of this error is that the RAID driver is disabled in Windows 7, by default. The RAID driver should be enabled before changing the SATA controller mode is changed.
Resolution:
To resolve this issue, you should remove the RAID disks and update the RAID driver in the registry settings, and finally attach the RAID disk again. To do this, you should perform the following steps:
- Close all programs.
- Open Registry Editor.
- Select the following registry subkey, assuming Iastorv.sys is the RAID driver.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Iastorv
- In the Details pane, right-click Start and click Modify.
- Type 0 in the Value Data text box, and click OK.
- Close Registry Editor.
- Install the RAID driver from the installation media CD.
- Shut down the system.
- Attach the RAID disk back to the system.
- Start the computer. The problem would be resolved now.
However, one must be careful while performing these steps as it may damage the system to a greater extent. And it may happen that you are unable to access the system even after using these steps. In such cases, you should use a third-party hard drive recovery software to perform hard driver recovery. Such Windows hard driver recovery tools are able to recover hard drive using fast yet sophisticated scanning algorithms.
